Edit: THIS DOES NOT WORK ON IPADS RELEASED WITH 3.2.2 ON THEM. There is program called “SHAtter” that will be coming out soon that will allow ALL iPads to be jailbroken. Read about it here: SHAtter to Jailbreak Every iDevice
For those unlucky enough to be caught in the time between when they can and can’t jailbreak 3.2.2 there is an option, downgrading. If you’ve never had cydia before, you can’t take the ’super easy ‘SHSH route. Instead you’ll need a way like this.
First and foremost, you’ll need a proper restore if you don’t already have one.
Do yourself a quick favor and either Spotlight or w/ Windows search your PC for “IPSW” being the file format for OS software for all the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad devices. Particularly you want a file named “iPad1,1_3.2.1_7B405_Restore”
If you don’t have it: 3.2.1 Restore software Download
Once you’ve downloaded the file, you’ll want RecBoot which allows you to knock whatever device you’re trying to restore or downgrade into DFU mode or out of it. DFU mode is crucial as it is what allows you to downgrade. [RecBoots Blog]
Now you can begin the process.
1. Back up or Sync your iPad as not to lose anything in the process. Close iTunes and tell it to shut up for a minute.
2. With the iPad connected, open up RecBoot and ‘Enter Recovery Mode’.
3. iTunes will alert you, that there’s an iPad in need. Ignore it for a moment, but make it crave your attention.
4. Here’s the important part, instead of simply Restoring the device OPTION-Click the restore button (or right click for windows or any mac with a two button mouse).
5. A new window will appear, seemingly asking for a desired file, go ahead and find the IPSW file you should have, “iPad1,1_3.2.1_7B405_Restore”, it may be in your pocket next to the melted chocolate.
6. iTunes will now begin installing the desired OS on your device, fear not it may take a bit more than a minute but by the time it’s restarted twice and run a nice progress bar across it’s screen you’ll have a fresh out-dated copy of 3.2.1 on your iPad.
TADA!

Ace, I’ll do a post on this later, until then you should still be able to search for 3.2.2 downgrade with SHSH. either way without the SHSH you should be able to use this method.
can you verify this works? I’ve tried it and it doesn’t.
RCC, this does work. Though we’ve found that for reasons unknown, some iPad users simply cannot get this to work no matter how hard they try. We’re looking into this issue and going to write a fix for those of you this doesn’t work for.
if you previously never had a jailbreak on your ipad. if you bought it with 3.2.2 installed this method will not work. for us poor fellows there’s only the possibilty to wait until november
I owned an iPhone 3GS and it really does wonder. I like it from the icons to how the transition works. Thinking of changing to iPhone 4 quickly immediately after my next month’s salary.
Hi…
I have some Questions of downgrade my ipad from
3.2.2 to 3.2.1 FW, this to make possible the jailbroken with spirit.
So i just bought it with the 3.2.2 firmware, thats the reason that im trying to
do this downgrade method (because i have never use a jailbroken method and no SHSH Blobs saved)
So… is it possible to make it?, and in case of something goes wrong, can I make it reversible ?
Thanks a lot!
It’s reversible if you BACK UP your iPad first. If it doesn’t work, do a restore and wait for SHAtter. There is another article on here about shatter.
